FAQ — Planning & Process | True North Advisory

Common questions, honest answers.

The questions we get most often — and what we wish people asked earlier in the conversation.

Frequently asked questions

What kinds of trips do you plan?

Golf travel is the primary practice — Scotland, Ireland, Pinehurst, Bandon, Cabot, and a few other marquee destinations. We also plan group trips (bachelor parties, milestone trips, buddies trips), expedition itineraries (Patagonia, Iceland, Costa Rica), and spirits- or culinary-led custom builds.

See Services for the full breakdown.

Do you only plan golf travel?

No, but golf is the primary niche — roughly 60% of trips. The rest are group, milestone, expedition, and culinary work, typically for clients we have an existing relationship with. We don't plan all-inclusives, cruises, or theme parks — there are better-fit advisors for those.

How far in advance should I start?

Rough lead times:

Golf trips: 6–12 months for prime Scotland/Ireland/Bandon windows. Pebble Beach: 18 months, no exceptions. Pinehurst long weekends: 3–6 months.

Group trips: 4–9 months depending on group size and destination.

Expedition trips: 4–8 months, longer if a specific lodge or guide is the anchor.

Short notice is sometimes possible — we'll tell you honestly if it isn't.

Do you work with groups?

Yes. Groups of 4–20 are a core practice area. We handle rooming lists, transfers, group dining, and on-trip logistics with one direct point of contact for the host so you're not stuck running the trip.

See how group trips work.

What kind of budgets are the best fit?

Most clients fall between $5,000 and $30,000 per person all-in. We can plan below or above that range — what matters more is fit between the trip ambition and the budget.

Be honest about budget on the inquiry. It doesn't change how we treat you; it changes how well the first draft lands.

Can you assist with air, transfers, dining, and on-trip logistics?

Yes — and we usually should. Air strategy, ground transfers, dining reservations, and on-trip coordination are where premium trips quietly fall apart. We don't book award redemptions or loyalty-point itineraries; we book paid air through our consortium tools where there's a value to the client.

How does communication work once planning begins?

Email-first, phone for the moments that need it. One direct contact (Nick) for the whole trip — not a chat queue, not a rotating account team. During travel, you have a real phone number that answers when something needs to be re-routed at 7 a.m. local time.

What's the AI Golf Concierge?

A 24/7 conversational tool for quick golf questions — tee times, course pairings, when to go, gear logistics. It's designed for the late-night questions that don't need a real planning conversation. Try it at golf.truenorthtraveladvisory.com.

For actual trip planning, use the Start Planning form — the concierge isn't a substitute for a real itinerary conversation.

What if my destination isn't on your list?

Ask. The destination list reflects where we know cold, but we routinely plan trips just outside that core if the trip shape is something we do well. If we're not the right advisor, we'll tell you and route you to someone who is.

Do you handle visas, passports, or travel insurance?

We don't process visas or passports. We flag requirements early and point you to the right resources. For travel insurance, we recommend underwriting partners but don't sell policies ourselves.

Send them with your inquiry.

The Start Planning form has a notes field for anything you want to flag. We answer everything within one business day.
