About — Kristen & Nick Pupa & the Practice | True North Advisory

A practice built around judgment, not catalogs.

True North Advisory is a small, intentionally narrow travel practice. We plan trips the way good operators run businesses — with a thesis, a routing plan, and an honest read on what's worth your time.

Kristen & Nick Pupa.

We're Raleigh, NC-based Fora X travel advisors and started this practice for a specific reason: most premium trips fall apart at the operational seams — the wrong hotel for the route, the tee time that ruins the rest of the day, the transfer no one checked — not at the destination choice.

We plan trips as a systems problem with a hospitality outcome. That means routing matters, pacing matters, supplier choice matters, and the post-trip debrief matters because every trip should make the next one better.

The practice is intentionally narrow. Golf is the primary niche. Group adventures and milestone trips round out the rest. We don't book honeymoons to all-inclusive resorts, generic Caribbean weeks, cruises, or trips where the destination is interchangeable. If that's what you need, we'll happily refer you to someone who specializes in it.

Curated for those who know where they're going.

Why this practice exists.

Three observations turned a side project into a practice.

One. The luxury travel industry has gotten good at brand and bad at execution. Beautiful websites, decent hotels, weak routing, and an account manager who left two months ago.

Two. The best trips share a structure — a thesis, an anchor experience, deliberate pacing, and one person who answers when something needs to be re-routed at 7 a.m. local time.

Three. Golf travel and group travel reward judgment more than almost any other category. A wrong tee time or a wrong rooming list compounds for the whole trip.

This practice exists to bring real operational discipline to high-stakes leisure travel — with a tight enough focus that we can actually be good at it.

Taste and logistics, not one or the other.

Every itinerary starts with a thesis (what is this trip for) and ends with a travel document that a smart adult can read and act on without a back-and-forth.

Communication style: direct, brief, and proactive when something on the supplier side moves. Email-first, phone when it matters, no chat bots in the middle of a planning conversation (except for the AI Golf Concierge, which exists precisely to handle the late-night questions so the real conversations are higher-signal).

The networks that translate into client value.

Memberships are only useful if they unlock something real at booking time. Below is what each one means in practice — not a logo wall.
