Three kinds of trips. Built the same way.

Every trip starts the same way: a conversation about who's going, what's actually driving the timing, and what you want the trip to feel like. The destination is the easy part. The hard part is the rest.

Primary practice

Golf Travel

Scotland · Ireland · Pinehurst · Bandon · Cabot

The Legacy Round, the Open Championship circuit, and the custom build. We book the courses worth flying for and the hotels that earn their rate — and we know the difference between a 7 a.m. tee time at Kingsbarns and one at Carnoustie. Tee sheets, transfers, caddies, dining, and the off-day plan when the weather turns.

Group & Adventure

Group Trips

Bachelor/Bachelorette parties · Guys trips · Milestones

Group trips that actually come together. Costa Rica for eight. A 50th-birthday weekend that everyone remembers for the right reasons. Logistics handled so you don't end up as the trip's de facto travel agent.

Custom build

Expedition & Spirits

Patagonia · Iceland · Whiskey country

The bucket-list trip you've been thinking about for three years. Built to your handicap, your appetite, and your jet-lag tolerance. Distillery routes through Speyside, ridge hikes in Patagonia, fishing in Costa Rica.

How expedition trips work

Destinations we know from the inside.

Golf travel is the primary niche and the reason most clients find us. The list below is the working knowledge. If a destination isn't here, ask — we either know it or we'll tell you we don't and route you to someone who does.

Golf

Best windows · May–June · September

  • Scotland — St Andrews, Carnoustie, Royal Dornoch, Turnberry, Cruden Bay
  • Ireland — Royal County Down, Royal Portrush, Lahinch, Ballybunion, Old Head
  • Pinehurst — No. 2, No. 4, No. 8, The Cradle
  • Bandon Dunes — Pacific Dunes, Bandon Trails, Old Macdonald, Sheep Ranch
  • Cabot Cape Breton — Cabot Links + Cabot Cliffs
  • Pebble Beach — book 18 months out, no exceptions

Group & Expedition

Mixed seasons · planning lead time 4–9 months

  • Patagonia — Torres del Paine, ridge hikes, fly-fishing
  • Iceland — Westfjords loop, Highlands route
  • Costa Rica — Pacific surf coast + cloud forest
  • Speyside, Scotland — distillery route, paired with golf
  • Italian Lakes + Tuscany — couples / multi-generation
  • Tokyo + Kyoto — culinary-led

Discover. Design. Depart.

A simple three-step model that respects your time and gets the trip right before it gets booked.

  1. Discover

A 30-minute call to understand who's traveling, what's driving the timing, and what the trip needs to feel like. We surface constraints early — handicaps, mobility, food, budget — so the design starts with the right shape.

  2. Design

You get a routed itinerary with named hotels, courses or experiences, dining choices, and transfer logic. Two rounds of revision are standard.

  3. Depart

We book, confirm, and hand over a clean travel document. On-trip support runs through a real phone line — not a chat queue. Post-trip, we debrief so the next one starts further ahead.

Who's behind the practice.

True North Advisory is run by Kristen & Nick Pupa — Raleigh, NC-based Fora X travel advisors.

The practice is intentionally narrow. Golf travel is the primary niche. Group adventures, bachelor parties, milestone trips, and the occasional culinary or expedition build round out the rest.

Curated for those who know where they're going.

Who we work best with.

No fake testimonials. Instead, an honest read on who gets the most out of the practice — and who's better served elsewhere.
